New Delhi: Sri Lanka registered a spectacular victory of 155 runs afghanistan Taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series in the second ODI in Kandy on Sunday.
Despite setting a target of 309 runs to level the series, Afghanistan's team faltered and was bowled out for 153 runs in 34 overs with the help of leg spinner. Wanindu Hasaranga Shined with four wickets.
While Afghanistan looked to be in a good position during the chase at 128 for one, the dismissal of Rahmat Shah (63) and ibrahim zadran (54) proved to be a turning point, leaving little resistance from the remaining batsmen.
Both had made an important partnership of 97 runs for the second wicket, but Asitha Fernando, playing his first ODI match in 15 months, achieved a breakthrough by having Ibrahim caught behind the wicket.
Leg spinner Hasaranga bowled an important over and took two wickets, trapping Rahmat LBW and captain Hashmatullah Shahidi.
Hasaranga got support from the fast bowlers as Dilshan Madushanka took two wickets in an over and Asitha Fernando also took two wickets in an over.
Afghanistan collapsed after losing eight wickets for 10 runs, while Sri Lanka dominated in the lights.
Thanks to Charith Asalanka's unbeaten inning of 97 runs, Sri Lanka was successful in scoring more than 300 runs.
The Sri Lankan vice-captain was involved in two important partnerships, the first with Zenith Liyanage (50) adding 111 runs from 98 balls for the fifth wicket.
There was a partnership of 50 runs in 32 balls for the sixth wicket with Hasaranga.
Asalanka scored 62 runs in 35 balls in the last 10 overs and remained unbeaten on 97 runs, he scored 74 runs in 74 balls with the help of nine fours and two sixes.
Sri Lanka had a bad start and lost their openers for 36 runs.
Captain Kusal Mendis and Sadira Samarawickrama scored half-centuries, while adding 103 runs for the third wicket.
Both the batsmen became victims of bad strokes.
Samarawickrama hit a shot straight to mid-wicket, while Mendis had it caught at deep mid-wicket fielder but failed to edge it.
Azmatullah Omarzai One of the best bowlers for Afghanistan took three wickets.
Afghanistan performed poorly on the field, dropping five catches, for which they had to suffer the consequences.
The third and final ODI will be played at the same venue on Wednesday.
The host team won the only test of the tour by 10 wickets. The current series will be followed by three T20 matches, all of which will be held in Dambulla.
