“Always A Bit Of A Circus”: IPL’s Costliest Rs 24.75 Crore Buy Mitchell Starc Sums Up ‘Best T20 League’

Mar18,2024

Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc is all set to make a comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after a gap of eight years from the tournament. During IPL 2024, Starc became the most expensive player in the history of player auctions after KKR spent Rs 24.75 crore to buy him. Although a bidding war for Starc was started by Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, both the teams backed out when the price tag of the lanky fast bowler reached close to Rs 10 crore.

Interestingly, Starc was also sold by KKR before IPL 2018, but the Australian fast bowler decided to opt out of the tournament due to injury. He last played the tournament for RCB during IPL 2015.

Speaking on his IPL comeback, Starc said that he cannot wait to wear the KKR jersey.

“I feel like it's been 8 years. I'm back at KKR where I should have been in 2018. So I'll be back there for a chance to get the gold and purple. I think my memories are a bit more distant. with RCB in 2014 and 2015, but yes, really excited to get stuck into it. Obviously, a new group of players. A group of guys I certainly haven't met before or got to work with. I'm not able to,” Starc said in a video posted by cricket.com.au.

While the 34-year-old feels the IPL can be a bit chaotic at times because of the competitiveness, he admitted that the cash-rich league is the best franchise-based tournament.

“I have some players, international players that I have played against and met them. Yes, it's going to be exciting. It's definitely a new challenge. But yes, it will be exciting. It's always a bit of a circus. , even though it is the best T20 league in the world. So, yes, I am looking forward to it.”

The 34-year-old Starc has usually preferred international duty over the IPL, but he decided to enter the auction with an eye on the T20 World Cup to be held after the IPL.

He has played only two seasons of the IPL, taking 34 wickets in 27 matches at an average of 20.38.
