Antoine Fuqua to direct feature documentary on Nelson Mandela

Filmmaker Antoine Fuqua is set to direct a feature documentary on former South African President Nelson Mandela. Project title is temporary Troublemaker: The Story Behind the Mandela TapesThe entertainment news outlet reported Diversity,

A press release said the documentary will feature newly discovered audio interviews of Mandela – affectionately known as Madiba – in order to give an “honest, accurate and definitive portrayal” of the late leader. For the project, Fuqua – known for training Day And equalizer Films – has teamed up with Mandela's close friend and former cellmate Mac Maharaj, who serves as executive producer on the documentary.

“It is an honor to bring to the screen the untold story of Mandela, a man I have respected my entire life. I am incredibly fortunate to partner on this project with Mac Maharaj, whose experience, wisdom And his encyclopedic memory of his years with Mandela is priceless,” the filmmaker said.

Maharaj, who also served as a minister in the Mandela government, said he looked forward to seeing Fuqua bring Madiba's story to life. “I aspire to look at the story of Nelson Mandela and his decades-long fight and sacrifice for freedom, equality and justice in an authentic, complex and revelatory way. It is a story that is more relevant to humanity today than ever before “I am thrilled that a director with the skill, creativity and integrity of Antoine Fuqua has agreed to take on this challenging task,” he said.

Fuqua has already begun production and has interviewed several individuals associated with Mandela.
