Bank Holiday April 2024: Banks in many states will remain closed on Monday, April 1, 2024. This is as per the guidelines prescribed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for annual closure of closed accounts.
According to an ET report, as per the RBI holiday list, banks will remain closed for a total of 14 days in various states in the month of April, including Sundays and second and fourth Saturdays.
RBI classifies holidays into three categories: Negotiable Instruments Act holidays, Real Time Gross Settlement holidays, and bank account closing holidays.
April 1, 2024, has been designated as a bank account closing holiday, allowing banks to finalize their annual accounts. However, it is important to note that while most places will follow this bandh, Mizoram, Chandigarh, Sikkim, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh and Meghalaya will remain unaffected.

Exchange and deposit Rs 2,000 notes

Additionally, the Reserve Bank of India has announced that exchange and deposits of Rs 2,000 notes will not be available on April 1, 2024. This temporary suspension is due to the annual closure of accounts. As per the RBI notification issued on March 28, 2024, this facility will restart on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.
