Bangladesh re-appointed on Monday Nazmul Hussain Shanto as national cricket captain for all three formats for the upcoming year due to uncertainty over the availability of regular replacements shakib al hassan,
The 25-year-old top-order batsman Nazmul had led Bangladesh in the last two series against New Zealand on home and away soil but was expected to hand over the charge to Shakib.
Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan told reporters, “Shakib was obviously our first choice as captain, but we did not want to live with any uncertainty.”
Nazmul referred to Shakib's eye problem which developed during the World Cup in India last year and which forced him to seek treatment in Britain and Singapore.
Shakib also missed several matches in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 tournament due to this issue.
Bangladesh will play at least 14 Tests, nine ODIs and 21 Twenty20 Internationals this year, including the Twenty20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies.
BCB appointed former national captain Ghazi Ashraf Hussain as the new chief selector.
Bangladesh will host Sri Lanka in their next series in March and April for three ODIs, three T20Is and two Test matches.
