BCCL coal washery put up for sale in govt monetisation drive


New Delhi: Coal Ministry has started the process of selling Bharat Coking Coal Limited(BCCL) washery is in Dugda Bokaro district As part of Jharkhand's asset monetization scheme, a move that will also boost domestic supply of coking coal.
The ministry also unveiled a national master plan on Wednesday that aims to provide regional insights through geospatial layers PM Gati Shakti Platform for efficient planning and implementation of coal mining and transportation projects.
The ministry on Wednesday said the washery, which has an annual capacity of processing 2 million tonnes of coal per year, is not currently operational and will be auctioned to steelmakers with coal linkages.
The winner will be decided on the basis of the premium offered and will get the plant under the build/renovate, operate, maintain and transfer model.
India partly meets its coking coal requirement through imports amid rising demand due to expansion of steelmaking capacity. The sale of the washery underlines the government's commitment to efficiently utilize coal reserves and optimize resources to extract better value.
The ministry aims to raise Rs 51,118 crore through asset monetization in 2023-24. It plans to raise Rs 10,118 crore through sale of Coal India's assets and the remaining amount through initiatives such as auction of mines, appointment of mine developers and operators, coal bed methane as well as coal gasification projects. BCCL is a subsidiary of Coal India.
