Chennai Super Kings (CSK) New Zealand batsman Devon Conway will not play any part in this season's Indian Premier League (IPL) as an injury has ruled him out of the remainder of the tournament. Conway has missed CSK's first six matches so far amid uncertainty over his participation in the tournament due to injury. However, the opening batsman has now been ruled out of the entire season. CSK has named veteran England fast bowler Richard Gleeson as his replacement.

“Devon Conway has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 due to injury,” the IPL said in a statement on Thursday.

Conway has been a part of CSK for the last two seasons and helped them win the title last year. He played 23 matches and scored 924 runs, which included 9 half-centuries and a highest score of 92 not out.

On the other hand, 36-year-old Gleeson is yet to get a taste of IPL cricket. In 2022, he made his England debut in the T20I against India scoring 35 runs and finished the match with figures of 3/15, dismissing Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant.

He has played a total of 6 T20 matches for England.

“CSK have included Richard Gleeson in the squad for the remainder of IPL 2024. Gleeson has represented England in 6 T20Is and has 9 wickets to his name. Additionally, Gleeson has played 90 T20s and taken 101 T20 wickets. He will join CSK with a reserve price of Rs 50 lakh.”

Meanwhile, CSK are currently placed third on the points table with four wins out of a possible six.
