Injured Gujarat Titans (GT) fast bowler Mohammed Shami has revealed about Shubman Gill taking over the captaincy of the franchise for IPL 2024. Gill replaced Hardik Pandya as GT captain after the all-rounder was traded to Mumbai Indians ahead of the auction last year. Gill will make his captaincy debut against Hardik's MI at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. Speaking on the change in leadership, Shami, who has been ruled out of the season due to injury, suggested that the captaincy came too early for Gill.

“As you said (the anchor suggested that captaincy came early for Gill), captaincy came early, and he might not have expected it; I feel the same way. But you had to take the responsibility one day. You Has been performing well last season and has done well in international cricket as well,” Shami told Cricbuzz.

However, Shami also gave a piece of advice to Gill and said that the young player should not let the pressure of captaincy affect his game.

“You don't have to take on captaincy too much, just be normal and patient. The more calm you are, the better you will be. Now you have the responsibility; you can't say no. Just focus on your skills and you can help your team. How can we balance it,” he said.

Gill may be raw when it comes to captaincy but as far as his batting is concerned, he is considered the 'next big thing' in Indian cricket. But, this does not eliminate the fact that Gill will face new challenges while assuming the role of captaincy.

In GT, Gill has big shoes to fill after leading the franchise to the title in its first season in 2022 under Hardik, before they even reached the final last season, where they lost to Chennai Super Kings. They went.

Having won the Orange Cap in the last edition, Gill will be keen to take on Mumbai Indians in the start of the GT campaign.
