CUET UG 2024 pattern change: Reduced exam time, new courses and other details

Applications are ongoing for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) 2024 for undergraduate courses. Eligible candidates will be able to register for the national level entrance examination till March 26, 2024. After this, National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the examination in the month of May 2024.
The National Testing Agency has released a document answering various common questions regarding the CUET UG 2024 exam. NTA had earlier announced several changes in the university entrance examination.
However, candidates were speculating about the new changes in the exam pattern. To provide clarity, the exam conducting body has released the FAQs document on its website nta.ac.in. Here are the main points-
Two more courses added to domain-subject list
NTA has recently added two more courses to the CUET UG syllabus, taking the total number of domain-specific subjects to 29. Students will be able to choose only six subjects out of 63, which includes 33 languages, 29 domain-specific tests and. A simple test. The testing agency recommends students to choose at least one language. The two new subjects are Fashion Studies and Tourism.
Change in exam duration
The graduate entrance examination will last for 45 minutes. Accountancy, Economics, Physics, Computer Science, Informatics Practice, Chemistry, Mathematics/Applied Mathematics and General Test will all be of 60 minutes duration.
What are the different sections in the exam?
To encourage more students to take the national level entrance examination, this year's examination will be conducted in hybrid mode. For subjects taught on paper, there may be three shifts per day, each lasting about two hours. Here are the section-specific topics-

  • routine test: This section will assess the candidates' General Knowledge, Current Events, General Mental Ability, Numerical Ability, Quantitative Reasoning, Simple Application of Basic Mathematical Concepts (Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration, Statistics) and Logical and Analytical Reasoning.
  • Language: This section will test reading comprehension using different types of paragraphs (factual, literary and narrative), literary aptitude and vocabulary.
  • Domain-Specific Topics: Questions will be asked mainly from Class 12 syllabus.

Subject wise pattern overview
NTA has also clarified the exam pattern for different domain-papers in its FAQs document:

Topic Description
Teaching Aptitude Test Overview Teaching Aptitude Test consists of total 50 questions in which candidates have to answer 40 questions.
Computer Science and Informatics Practice The Computer Science and Informatics practice exam is divided into two sections. Section A consists of 15 questions about computer science and informatics practices. Section B1 contains 35 questions from computer science, while section B2 contains questions only about informatics practices. Candidates are expected to answer 25 questions in each sub-section.
Mathematics and Applied Mathematics Mathematics and Applied Mathematics tests are divided into two sections. Part 1 is compulsory and consists of 15 questions. Section B1 contains 35 questions from Mathematics, while Section B2 contains 35 questions from Applied Mathematics. Candidates are required to answer 25 out of 35 questions in each section.
