NEW DELHI: The Delhi Directorate of Education on a notice released today, ordered that all schools in Delhi, across different categories- government, government-aided and recognised private schools, would resume classes as per their usual regular timings from February 6, 2024, Tuesday.
The notice reads, “In view of the improved weather conditions in Delhi, all Govt., Govt.Aided and Recognised Private Schools of Delhi shall resume their full normal timings wef. 06.02.2024 (Tuesday).”
In response to the improvement in weather conditions, the Department of Education (DoE) has taken the decision to resume regular classes for schools in Delhi. It is important for students, parents, and teachers to be aware of this development and plan accordingly. The notice states, “The HoSs must inform all Students, Parents and Staff well in time through Mass SMS facility, Phone Calls, SMC and other suitable means of communication.”
Despite the improvement, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport experienced delays in several flights due to lingering dense fog. Although the fog was less intense compared to previous days, its impact was still significant, affecting both air and rail travel. Recently, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for the national capital, taking into account the prevailing foggy conditions. According to the weather office, dense to very dense fog is expected in the morning hours over certain parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi.
The Delhi Department of Education (DoE) previously extended winter vacations for Delhi schools up to Class 5 until January 12 due to severe cold weather conditions. This decision came after an earlier extended break in November of the previous year, from November 9 to 18, in response to concerns about pollution and cold weather. The authorities are constantly monitoring and adapting to changing weather conditions. The winter break had been further extended, with the announcement made by the Delhi Education Minister, Atishi, that schools will remain closed until January 12, 2024. This decision was again made in response to the prevailing cold wave in Delhi and a yellow alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Classes for students from nursery to class 5 was ordered to be temporarily suspended for five consecutive days that week. The Delhi minister made the announcement via the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) as a proactive measure to ensure the safety of students during the current weather conditions.
