After losing the first Test against England, the Indian cricket team made a spectacular comeback by defeating the Ben Stokes-led side by 106 runs in the second Test. Despite England showing good signs in bits and pieces, the Indian bowlers managed to bowl out England twice in the match. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jasprit Bumrah and Shubman Gill performed brilliantly as India leveled the five-match series 1-1. However, there were some reasons for concern. The batting performance of specialist batsmen Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer was largely disappointing.
Wicketkeeper KS Bharat's performance was also nothing special. With players like Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan unavailable due to various reasons, the 30-year-old is getting opportunities behind the stumps.
Although Indian cricket team coach Rahul Dravid was satisfied with Bharat's keeping in the first two Tests, he could not say the same about his batting. He was accidentally caught at mid-on on a half-tracker in the second innings and has not been able to do much with the bat so far in the series.
“Disappointed (for Bharat) is a strong word. I wouldn't use that word. Sometimes, young players take time to develop. They grow at their own pace. Yes, as a coach I mean You want players to take advantage of opportunities. His keeping has been good, you will also agree that he could have done better with the bat,” the head coach said.
Considering KS Bharat's mediocre performance with the bat in the ongoing series against England, India may look to the services of Ishan Kishan. Rishabh Pant is yet to fully recover from the injuries sustained in a horrific car accident in December, 2022. Apart from KS Bharat, Dhruv Jurel was also a part of the first two Tests.
“We are in touch with him (Ishan Kishan), it is not that we are not in touch. He has not started playing properly yet so at the moment we cannot consider it. Because you know maybe he is not ” Ready. He decides when he is ready. We have options because of Rishabh's injury and other things. I am sure the selectors will consider all options,'' he said.
After the series-levelling win over England, Dravid once again tried to clarify the situation on Kishan's absence.
“There is a way back for anyone and everyone. I don't want to discuss about the Ishan Kishan issue. Have tried to explain it as much as I can, the issue was that he had requested a break, we Glad to see he was given a break,” Dravid said while speaking to the media.
“Whenever he is ready, I did not say he has to play domestic cricket, I said whenever he is ready, he has to play some cricket and come back. The choice is his. We are not forcing him to do anything.” are doing.”
