“Dukh Hota Hai”: Shadab Khan On Fans Taunting Imad Wasim With “Babar Babar” Chants


A nasty incident made headlines during Pakistan Super League Eliminator 2 between Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United on Saturday. During the game at the National Stadium in Karachi, a section of fans chanted “Babar Babar” at United's all-rounder Imad Wasim. The video of the incident went viral on social media and Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan also commented on the issue after the game. Shadab said quite vocally that such actions hurt the players.

“Obviously it hurts. For such a tall ass to play for Pakistan, to perform. Things like that, our crowd, he was doing such things. You feel 'I have played for this country and this is the country. We have won matches for Pakistan, and our people are treating us like this' so that feels a bit like that. (It's obviously sad to see. To play and perform for Pakistan for so long. Notably, Imad had earlier criticized Babar during the Cricket World Cup 2023, where Pakistan performed poorly. The comments made by him prompted fans to taunt him on Saturday by chanting “Babar Babar”.

Talking about the game, Islamabad United made it to the final with a five-wicket win over Peshawar Zalmi, with Imad playing a key role in the win.

Islamabad United captain Shadab won the toss and invited the rival team to bat first. Thanks to Saim Ayub's 73 runs and Mohammad Haris's 40 runs, Peshawar Zalmi scored 185 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs. Imad could not get any wicket but bowled an economical spell of 0/23 in four overs.

In reply, thanks to Imad's unbeaten 59 runs on 40 balls and Haider Ali's unbeaten 52 runs on 29 balls, Islamabad won in just 19 overs.

Islamabad United will face Multan Sultans in the PSL 2024 final on March 18 at the National Stadium in Karachi.
