Fans Booing Hardik Pandya To Be Detained? MCA Clarifies As Rumours Go Viral

Fans have not been kind to Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Hardik, who is making his captaincy debut for MI in IPL 2024, was heckled by the crowd in the franchise's first two matches so far. The 30-year-old received an unfavorable welcome upon his return to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, with Gujarat Titans fans booing him at the time of the toss. MI have lost both their games so far, first against GT, and then against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

For those unaware, fans are not happy with Hardik replacing Rohit as MI captain following his trade from GT ahead of the IPL 2024 players auction.

On Monday, MI will take on Rajasthan Royals in their first home match of the season and reports have suggested possible crowd trouble at the Wankhede Stadium.

Rumors are also rife that the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has started planning to take action against fans targeting Hardik.

However, the MCA has denied this, saying that they will follow BCCI guidelines on crowd behaviour.

An MCA statement quoted by News 18 said, “No instructions have been given for this specific game. Guidelines have been issued by the BCCI over the years on the behavior of spectators, this is the procedure that is followed “

Amid Hardik's troubles, Ravichandran Ashwin came out in strong support of the MI captain.

Ashwin blamed the prevailing atmosphere of “fan war” and “cinema culture” for the hostile behavior towards Pandya from the audience and on social media spaces, which started after the all-rounder replaced Rohit Sharma as MI captain ahead of IPL 2024. happened.

“Fan wars should never take such a bad turn. One should remember what country these players represent – our country. Then why is there a need to tease a cricketer? “I don't understand. If you don't like a player and scold a player, why should a team come forward to issue an explanation,” Ashwin said while replying to a fan's question on his YouTube channel.

Ashwin also brought up examples from the past when legends like Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly kept aside their egos and played under the then very young cricketer MS Dhoni.

“Sourav Ganguly played under Sachin Tendulkar and vice versa. Both of them have played under Rahul Dravid. All three of them have played under Anil Kumble and all of them have played under Dhoni.

He said, “When they were under Dhoni, these players were cricket giants. Dhoni also played under Virat (Kohli).”
