Google entered the foldable market last year with the Pixel Fold. The book-style foldable phone, launched during the Google I/O 2023 event in May, is powered by the company's in-house Tensor G2 chipset. Now, speculations about the Pixel Fold 2 are surfacing on the web. Recently, an early practical render of the second-generation Pixel Fold has been leaked online showing off the design elements. The renders point to a narrow form factor and a redesigned camera module for the device. It appears to have a OnePlus Open-inspired design. The Pixel Fold 2 is expected to be powered by the Tensor G4 chipset.
A report by Android Authority has shown a single hands-on shot of the alleged Pixel Fold 2. The render shows a narrow cover display for the device. The display appears smaller than the Pixel Fold's 5.8-inch cover display. The aspect ratio of the internal screen is said to be close to a square and the overall look of the next-generation Pixel Fold may be similar to the OnePlus Open.
The renders point to a redesigned camera bump on the Pixel Fold 2. The camera island arranged on the top left side of the back houses four camera sensors, an LED flash and a microphone. The camera unit is likely to include a main wide-angle lens, a secondary ultra wide-angle lens, a tertiary periscopic telephoto lens, and an unidentified quaternary lens. This would be a notable upgrade compared to the visor-like triple rear camera setup of the Pixel Fold.
Additionally, the Pixel Fold 2 will reportedly have an aluminum frame and a noticeable crease. The interior is said to feature a hole punch cutout on the top right corner of the screen to house the selfie shooter. The first generation Pixel Fold hides its internal screen camera in the top bezel.
Various hardware specifications of the Pixel Fold 2 were leaked recently. The upcoming smartphone may skip the Tensor G3 chipset and go straight to the Tensor G4. It may have 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 4.0 storage. It is expected to become official in October.
Google Pixel Fold was launched at the Google I/O 2023 event in May last year at a price of $1,799 (approximately Rs 1,47,500) for the base variant with 256GB storage.
