When Shankar Mahadevan arrived in Mumbai today after his win at the Grammys 2024, he was given a warm welcome. The singer and composer, along with Zakir Hussain, is part of the fusion band Shakti, which won the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album. 'this moment'.

The album features founding members, guitarist John McLaughlin along with Hussain, Mahadevan, violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan and percussionist Selvaganesh Vinayakram.

Speaking to the media at the airport, Shankar Mahadevan said, “This is a very special moment for me and all my band members. For me, it is a dream come true. “After 25 years of touring, here we get a Grammy.”

The famous singer also shared a thank you note on his social media handle. His post on Instagram read, “We did it. I never thought that the band from which I learned my music and my musical aesthetics would be the same band that I would eventually perform with and win a Grammy. This is the moment from which I can easily say that dreams do come true. Shakti was a dream come true! Thank you Almighty for making this happen! “This is really this moment.”

'This Moment', the group's first studio album in over 45 years, was released in June 2023 to critical acclaim. At the Grammys, Mahadevan, who took the stage with Rajagopalan and Selvaganesh, thanked McLaughlin and Hussain. While McLaughlin did not attend the ceremony, Hussain was backstage as he won another Grammy.

“We miss you John. Zakir Hussain, he got another Grammy today. Thank you children, God, family, friends and India. We are proud of you, India,” Mahadevan said in the speech, dedicating the win to his wife Sangeeta.
