“Hardik Pandya Is The Captain, Rohit Sharma Is…”: MI Star Tilak Varma On Captaincy Scenario

As Mumbai Indians prepare for their opening match for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, a new leadership structure has been put in place, with Hardik Pandya replacing Rohit Sharma as captain. Although it will take a few games to see how the new structure works for the 5-time champions, for franchise middle-order batsman Tilak Verma, not much has changed since Hardik took over the reins. The left-handed batsman spoke about how both Hardik and Rohit are always available to other players in the team.

At the press conference before MI's opening match against Gujarat Titans, Tilak faced a lot of questions regarding the captaincy change scenario in the team. He had only good things to say about the hearty leader.

Verma said, “Rohit has been there for us and Hardik bhai has also been there for us. It is the same, just following the basics. Strategy wise everything is going well. It is the same thing, whatever Not new.”

Tilak also made his debut for India under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, and is now heading into the IPL 2024 season with the all-rounder as the captain. While Hardik is the designated captain of the team, Tilak pointed out that Rohit is there for both the captain and others whenever they need his inputs.

He said, “When I played for India, I debuted under his (Hardik) leadership, so it is going well. Hardik is the captain, Rohit is always there for Hardik and the team. As a team we Match well together.”

Tilak also talked about his role in the team and said that after making his debut for India, he now has a big responsibility on his shoulders.

“Last year was a good season, but now, as a senior player and after playing for India, I have a slightly bigger responsibility to play mature innings. As I have said earlier, I always want to finish the game , and I have good knowledge and experience of it while playing for India, so I am looking forward to using it now,” he said.
