Haryana govt considers having Alcometers in schools

Chandigarh: The Haryana Transport Ministry A campaign will be launched to check the fitness of all school buses and a proposal to install alco meters to check whether drivers are drunk is also being considered.
This step came after School bus accident in HaryanaFive students died and 15 others were injured in Mahendragarh.
Haryana Transport Minister Asim Goyal said that a fitness campaign will be started for school buses.
On the Mahendragarh school bus accident, Haryana Transport Minister Asim Goyal said, “The transport department is working continuously. A campaign to check the fitness of all school buses will be started from April 20.
“We also said yesterday that as per the Supreme Court guidelines, we will also ensure CCTV cameras and speedometers. And we are also considering the provision of alco meters and drivers will be tested twice a day to see if they have consumed alcohol. Or not.” He added.
Talking about the school's response regarding the campaign, he said, “It will be the collective responsibility of everyone from the school to the transporters and the parents. All the schools are cooperating with us because everyone cares about the children and their safety. Wants to make sure.”
Earlier, state education minister Seema Trikha on Thursday said a notice has been issued to the school and all private schools will have to give an affidavit that their vehicles operate as per the transport rules and norms.
Education Minister Trikha told ANI, “I want to tell the entire state that show cause notice has been issued to the school today and besides this, we have taken self-affidavits from private schools. Secondly, they will have to give an affidavit ” The transport vehicle states that their vehicles operate as per the transport rules and norms, thirdly, whoever is driving their vehicles, if they are found drunk, they (schools) will take responsibility.”
Trikha further said that an FIR will be lodged against the driver as well as the school principal and owner in the Mahendragarh bus accident case.
After this tragic accident, RTA Assistant Secretary Pradeep Kumar was also suspended with immediate effect.
