“He’s A Human Being Like You”: Ravi Shastri’s Message To Mumbai Indians Fans Booing Hardik Pandya

Former Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri believes that Mumbai Indians fans will have to be patient with captain Hardik Pandya and stop harassing him during IPL 2024 matches. Hardik replaced Rohit Sharma as MI captain after completing a sensational trade from Gujarat Titans, but under his leadership the team has lost three consecutive matches in the competition. The reaction from a section of the crowd was not favorable as Hardik was criticized during the home match against Rajasthan Royals. Shastri said that Hardik is a new captain and at the end of the day, fans have to remember that the all-rounder is “a human being just like them”.

“You have supported the team for years. In just 2-3 matches, they won't be a bad team. They are 5-time champions, after all, they have a new captain. Just be patient, you know the guy. Are after someone like him. At the end of the day, he has to sleep at night. So just think about it, stay calm,” Ravi Shastri said on Star Sports.

“My thing to Hardik would be 'stay calm, be patient, don't pay attention and then concentrate on your game.' What, things will change,'' he said.

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya on Tuesday said the former champions will not give up and will continue to fight in the ongoing IPL despite the hat-trick of defeats.
“If you should know one thing about this team, it's that we never give up. We keep fighting, we keep moving forward,” Hardik posted on Twitter.

Hardik has been facing the wrath of fans ever since he was made MI captain in place of Rohit Sharma. The all-rounder was criticized in the team's opening two matches and the crowd's hostility was at its peak in MI's first home match of the season on Monday.

To add to the troubles, MI had a disastrous start to their 2024 IPL campaign under his captaincy as they finished bottom of the table after three consecutive defeats.

However, MI are known to be perennial slow starters. In 2015, they lost the first four games before winning the title.

Hardik's poor captaincy decisions have also been questioned – be it not giving the new ball to Bumrah or sending Tim David ahead of himself against Gujarat Titans.

The change in captaincy has not been liked by many MI supporters. On Monday, slogans of 'Rohit-Rohit' echoed in Wankhede and the Indian captain himself asked the crowd not to make fun of Hardik.

Mumbai Indians' next match will be against Delhi Capitals at home on Sunday.
