“How Will You Manage Studies?”: Mumbai Indians Teen Gets Tricky Question From Mom, His Reply Viral

Mumbai Indians have secured the services of 17-year-old South African fast bowler Kwena Mafaka as a replacement for Sri Lankan fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Madushanka, who was bought by MI for Rs 4.6 crore, suffered a hamstring injury during Sri Lanka's second ODI against Bangladesh earlier this month. Meanwhile, Mafaka will link up with fellow South African and MI head coach Mark Boucher. The 17-year-old caught everyone's attention by taking 21 wickets at an average of 9.71 during the U19 World Cup on home soil this year.

Mafaka reached MI's team hotel in Mumbai but was surprised by a tricky question from his mother.

In a video posted by MI, the administrator posed questions to Mafaka's mother, who asked how he would handle his studies.

Answering the question, the 17-year-old said that he would be able to do it.

“Yeah, it's definitely going to be a difficult time. But it's a lot of extra lessons and a lot of hard work,” he said in the video.

On becoming MI's latest acquisition, Mfaka said: “It feels really good. Definitely something unexpected. But I'm really happy to be here. It's a beautiful city.”

Mafaka's mother also expressed her excitement over the 17-year-old joining the franchise.

“It's an honor. We are very fortunate to have Quena be a part of such a big Mumbai Indians family and I hope he fits in and is welcomed,” he said in the video.

Mafaka's T20 figures include 13 wickets at an economy of 6.71 from nine matches, including four wickets.

“Mafaka is already capable of generating serious pace and has a very mean bouncer that is known to take batsmen by storm,” MI said in a media release. He made his debut for South Africa U19 at the age of 15. “Debuted for the team and has already played in two U19 World Cups.” release.

“He is capable of touching 140 kmph, and his death bowling and yorkers were also exceptional in the U19 World Cup earlier this year.

“He will share the dressing room with two of the best bowlers in world cricket – Lasith Malinga, the bowling coach, and Jasprit Bumrah, who will lead him on a path of learning, development and building on that knowledge.” MI will play its opening match of IPL 2024 against last season's runners-up Gujarat Titans on March 24 in Ahmedabad under new captain Hardik Pandya.
