A report in The Indian Express revealed that back stiffness and pain in the groin area “while playing forward defence” could rule Iyer out of the team.
The report adds that Iyer's equipment has been taken to his hometown Mumbai instead of Rajkot, the venue of the third Test – which confirms that he will not be available for selection.

He will reportedly receive treatment at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and hopes to recover in time for the Indian Premier League season.
Virat Kohli is expected to be unavailable for the third Test, after withdrawing himself from the first two matches in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam. However, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, who were ruled out of the second Test, are likely to return to the team.
