Sri Lankan fast bowler Mathiesha Pathirana's best IPL figures overshadowed Rohit Sharma's fighting century as Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 20 runs in the match at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Despite Rohit's courageous unbeaten century, Mumbai fell far short of the target set by Chennai. Pathirana took 4 wickets for 28 runs by dismissing Ishan Kishan (23), Suryakumar Yadav (0), Tilak Verma (31) and Romario Shepherd (1). In reply to CSK's 206 for 4, MI were restricted to 186 for 6.

There was only one change in the points table after the result of the game, with MI slipping to 8th and Punjab Kings moving up to 7th.

Earlier in the day, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 8 wickets. Despite the win on Sunday, CSK remained in third place. Meanwhile, KKR are in second place with equal points as CSK but better net run rate.

Mathisha Pathirana received the Player of the Match award after leading CSK to victory over MI on Sunday. “When we were bowling in the powerplay, I was quite nervous. I was told to stay calm and do my job, which gave me confidence today. I don't think much about the results, just worried about my execution. If I execute, I will get my reward. Sometimes I had to change my plans depending on the batsmen, but the support staff supported me and that is my form. The main reason,” said the Sri Lankan fast bowler.
