IPL 2024: Sunil Gavaskar’s Big ‘Shubman Gill And Ashish Nehra’ Remark In Bold Gujarat Titans Prediction

Feb14,2024

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has backed Gujarat Titans (GT) to qualify for the playoffs in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), despite captain Hardik Pandya being traded to Mumbai Indians. Under the guidance of former India fast bowler Ashish Nehra, Hardik led GT to the IPL title in his maiden season of the tournament in 2022. The franchise had also reached the final of the tournament last year, losing to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Ahmedabad. Despite Hardik's departure, Gavaskar feels Nehra can still inspire GT in the upcoming season with the new captain in Shubman Gill.

“Above all, it will be Ashish Nehra who takes over the reins. With Ashish Nehra taking over the reins and Shubman Gill's guidance, I would not be surprised if Gujarat Titans finish in the top four once again,” Gavaskar said. On Star Sports.

However, Gavaskar pointed out that Gill may not have as much influence as Hardik as a leader.

The great batsman said, “Shubman Gill, the young cricketer, it is difficult to say whether he will be able to make an impact like Hardik Pandya or not. Shubman Gill was in incredible form last year.”

Gill was the leading run-scorer in IPL 2023 with 890 runs in 17 matches at an average of 59.33. He also recorded three centuries and four half-centuries during this period. Gavaskar suggested that if Gill can replicate his form from last season, his job as captain will become much easier.

“When a captain is in such good form, he is also able to lead better. His place is solid and certain, the rest know that there is a good performer here and we have to do what he wants.” Asking us to.” ,” He added.

Gavaskar signed off by saying that Gill's equation with the young and senior players could define GT's season.

Gavaskar concluded, “Shubman Gill is not that extrovert yet, but he is not an introvert either. So how Shubman Gill gels with the other young players and some of the senior players will be important.”
