Kotian was bought by Rajasthan Royals at his base price of Rs 20 lakh, as announced by the IPL.
Despite Adam Zampa being retained under a contract worth Rs 1.5 crore after he took eight wickets in six matches for the Royals last season, the Australian leg spinner opted out of the season citing heavy workload ahead of the T20 World Cup in June. Option chosen.
Kotian, an off-spinner and a good lower-order batsman, was expected to get an IPL contract in 2023 after playing a key role in Mumbai's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy win, but he was reported for a suspect bowling action.
But the 25-year-old showed courage to make a comeback and became the player-of-the-tournament (502 runs and 29 wickets) in Mumbai's Ranji Trophy win this season.
Kotian, who usually bats at No. 8, scored an unbeaten 120 in the second innings and followed it up with an unbeaten 89 in the quarter-final and semi-final games against Baroda and Tamil Nadu respectively.
IPL also announced Karnataka's wicketkeeper-batsman BR Sharath has been included in place of Robin Minz in Gujarat Titans.
Jharkhand's Minj was ruled out after being injured in a motorcycle accident recently.
Sharath, who has represented Karnataka in domestic cricket, has so far played 20 first-class matches and 43 List A games, apart from 28 T20 matches and has 328 T20 runs in his name.
He will join GT for his base price of Rs 20 lakh.
