Israeli official reveals US proposal for hostage-prisoner exchange with Hamas


New Delhi: The United States has proposed a plan regarding the release of Palestinians jailed by Israel in exchange for hostages freed by Hamas in possible Gaza ceasefire talks, according to an Israeli official familiar with the discussions in Qatar.
The talks, chaired by CIA Director William Burns, included an Israeli delegation led by Mossad chief David Barnia with Qatari and Egyptian officials. The talks revealed disagreement over the ratio of prisoner exchanges, prompting the US to present a stronger offer, which Israel agreed to. Agreed while waiting for Hamas' response.
