New Delhi: Indian star athlete Neeraj Chopra Has expressed surprise at the struggles faced by his rival, Pakistan's top javelin exponent Arshad NadeemIn receiving a new javelin despite his remarkable achievements in the world of athletics.
Nadeem, who won a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham with a throw of 90.18m and a bronze medal at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games, has expressed disappointment at his inability to achieve international level javelin.
Reigning Olympic and world champion Chopra stressed the importance of proper equipment for athletes aiming to excel on the global stage. “It's hard to believe that he's struggling to get a new javelin. Given his credentials, it shouldn't be a big issue,” Chopra said in an interview with SAI media.
Nadeem recently shed light on his plight, saying, “When I started competing in international events in 2015, I got this javelin… For an international athlete aiming to win a medal at the Olympic Games, you need proper Equipment and training facilities are required.”

Chopra acknowledged the financial aspect, suggesting that Nadeem could leverage his stature in the game for support. Additionally, he urged the Pakistani government to provide assistance to Nadeem. “But having said that, their government can see the need of Arshad (Nadeem) and support him like my government is doing so. Also, Arshad (Nadeem) is a top javelin thrower and I believe The javelin throwers will be more than happy to sponsor him and provide him what he wants. That's a piece of advice from me,” Chopra said.
Nadeem, who had an elbow operation and subsequent knee surgery in the UK in December 2022, has faced setbacks in recent years. Her absence helped Chopra clinch the gold medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year.
