NTA conducted the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) – 2024 Session 1 starting from 24 January 2024 for Paper 2A (B.Arch.) and Paper 2B (B.Planning) from 27 January to 1 February 2024. Paper 1 (BE/B.Tech.). The exam was conducted at 544 centers spread across 291 cities across the country, including 21 cities outside India.
For students aiming for IIT
Candidates with impressive scores in JEE Mains are eligible for JEE Advanced 2024, Such students should immediately start preparing for the advanced examination to be held in May. Generally, candidates have to be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (regardless of category) in BE/B.Tech. Paper to qualify for JEE Advanced 2024.
Students with slightly lower scores in Mains 2024 Session 1 can opt to appear for jee main session 2 examination to improve their chances of getting selected for JEE Advanced 2024. Meanwhile, you can prepare for JEE Advanced by aiming for a better score in Session 2.
If you are not eligible for JEE Advanced, there is no need for you to take the exam. Based on your JEE Main score, you can appear for JoSAA counseling process to apply for admission in various NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and other engineering colleges.

The schedule of JEE JoSAA counseling in 2024-25 has not been released officially. But, based on how things have been over the years, we can give you an idea of what to expect during the counseling process.
- For admission to BE/B.Tech. For programs in NITs, IIITs and other similar institutes, you must have successfully qualified the JEE Main 2024 exam.
- For admission to IIT, it is necessary to pass JEE Advanced 2024 examination.
- You must have completed 12th class (or its equivalent) and must have studied Physics and Mathematics as core subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational subjects.
JoSSA Process (Temporary)
Registration: After the timetable is published, register yourself on the JoSAA website (josaa.nic.in) using your JEE Main/Advanced application number and password.
choice filling: Fill and lock your choices of institutes and programs based on your rank, preferred branch and other factors.
seat allocation:JoSAA will allot seats based on your rank, preferences and availability of seats.
seat approval: If you agree to the seat assigned to you, make sure to pay the Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) within the given time limit. This action confirms your seat.
Reporting: Visit the specified institute to verify your documents and complete the admission procedures.
extra round: If you decline the offered seat or wish to seek an upgrade, you can participate in any further rounds of seat allotment, if they are offered.
