It is said that Devdutt PadikkalThe promising left-handed batsman from Karnataka, who has had an impressive first-class season, will step in to fill Rahul's place in the team.
“KL Rahul has not reported to Rajkot yet. Ravindra Jadeja, the local boy has joined the team. It was always a fitness issue and the BCCI medical team is still not confident that he is match fit,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.
The selectors had earlier included both Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja in the squad after getting clearance from the BCCI medical team.
In his most recent Ranji Trophy match, 23-year-old Padikkal scored 151 and chairman of selection committee Ajit Agarkar watched his innings from the stands.
Padikkal has been in great form this season. After starting with 193 against Punjab in the opening game, he scored 103 against Goa.
Apart from his Ranji performances, Padikkal scored 105, 65 and 21 in his three innings for India A in two unofficial Test matches against England Lions.
As far as Rahul is concerned, the 31-year-old batsman's extended break raises serious questions over whether senior India players and the BCCI medical team are giving proper information about the injury status of some players.
“If the BCCI medical team already knew that Rahul's quad injury was as serious as it appeared, then why was he included in the temporary squad in the first place. And why is the player sending wrong signals by posting videos of his batting on Instagram Stories? Is.” ,” a senior BCCI official asked.
Another senior player, who was recently told that he would be dropped due to poor form, pulled out on the pretext of multiple injuries, which the board has not even mentioned.
Ishan Kishan's case is even more interesting because he has not yet spoken to his home state unit about whether he will play Ranji Trophy matches or not.
BCCI reveals new team for remaining 3 tests against England, Virat Kohli will not be out
Rahul's exclusion from the third and possibly fourth Test may open doors for him. Sarfaraz Khan Now Shreyas Iyer has also been dropped from the middle order.
However, if Jadeja takes his rightful place in the playing eleven then there will be more dilemma regarding the selection.
Axar Patel has batted well in the two Test matches so far and Kuldeep Yadav was the second best Indian bowler after Jasprit Bumrah in Visakhapatnam.
As far as the keeper position is concerned, time is running out for KS Bharat with Dhruv Jurel out of breath, but he may still get one last chance in Rajkot.
