According to a report in Indian Express, KL Rahul has been ruled out of the third Test match between India and England starting on Thursday in Rajkot after failing to recover from injury. Rahul was included in the Indian squad for the remaining three Tests of the five-match series, but it was warned that his availability would depend on his recovery. The report claims that while Ravindra Jadeja was able to make a timely recovery from his hamstring injury, Rahul is not fully fit yet and is still at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. While the team management is hopeful that Rahul will be available for the fourth Test, no official development was mentioned in the report.
Rahul complained of right quadriceps pain during the first Test match in Hyderabad and as a result, he was ruled out of the second Test which India won comprehensively in Visakhapatnam.
According to the report, Rahul will be replaced by another Karnataka batsman Devdutt Padikkal. Both the cricketers represent Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Padikkal has enjoyed great form in the Ranji Trophy and he also impressed for India A against England Lions.
Meanwhile, another media report has claimed that Dhruv Jurel can debut as a wicketkeeper in the third test match as a replacement for KS Bharat. Bharat's performance in the first two Tests was not satisfactory and the report said that the team management may look for a new option.
Team for the last 3 Tests against England: Rohit Sharma (C), Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul*, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, KS Bharat, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja*, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mo. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep.
