India batsman KL Rahul is expected to join the squad for the third Test of the five-match series against England starting on February 15 in Rajkot. Rahul, who could not play the second Test due to injury, was recently seen at the Mumbai airport. A video has gone viral on social media in which Rahul is seen posing with fans before entering the lobby at Terminal 2 of Mumbai airport. However, there is no confirmation yet regarding his availability for the match.
Rahul complained of pain in his right quadriceps and due to that he could not play the second Test in Visakhapatnam.
Meanwhile, batsman Shreyas Iyer is unlikely to be selected in the Indian team for the remaining Test series against England.
Iyer has been having recurring back problems and had undergone surgery last year. The 29-year-old scored 35, 13, 27, 29 in the first two Tests and was guilty of not taking advantage of the starts.
“He has complained of stiffness and back pain,” a BCCI source told PTI.
The selectors are yet to announce the squad for the last three Tests but they may do so on Friday.
On Monday, India bounced back in the five-match series with a 106-run win in Visakhapatnam. England, who are back in Abu Dhabi ahead of the third Test starting in Rajkot from February 15, won the first match of the series by 28 runs.
India will gather in Rajkot on February 11 and England are expected to reach there a day later.
The five-match series is tied at 1-1.
