New Delhi: Former first lady Hillary Clinton said that she would not mind President Biden's age… legitimate campaign issue, Despite facing criticism on a special counsel's report accusing him of being old manClinton believes Biden's age is a legitimate concern.
In an interview with MSNBC, Clinton acknowledged that the White House is aware of the issue and emphasized that it is also relevant to former President Donald Trump, who is only three years younger than Biden.
The former Democratic presidential candidate and Secretary of State further suggested that both Biden and Trump may struggle to connect with young voters, but that Biden should emphasize his experience as a leader.
“I think Biden should also pay attention to the fact that he is experienced and that experience is not just in the political arena,” he said. “It's like a human experience, character, wisdom thing.
A recent NBC News poll showed that 76% of respondents expressed concern about Biden's mental fitness to run for a second term.
The special counsel report issued by Robert Hur deemed Biden too old to stand trial for mishandling classified documents.
The report also noted Biden's failure to remember key events during the interview.
However, President Biden pushed back on his description of his mental acuity at a rapidly organized news conference later Thursday, saying, “My memory is fine!” and “I know what I'm doing!”
Clinton said that while age may be an issue, it is more important that voters choose the best candidate — and that she is leaning heavily on Biden.
“I'm rooting for Joe Biden to be re-elected on the merits because I think he's done a really good job as president,” Clinton said. “So, I think he should continue to go out and campaign. He is campaigning very vigorously throughout the country.
