After leveling the 5-Test series 1-1 against England in the second match, the Indian cricket team has left for Rajkot for the third match of the series. Saurashtra Cricket Association also plans to honor two superstars of the Indian Test team – Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja – at the venue. While Jadeja is a part of the current team, Pujara did not get a place in the team despite his excellent performance in the Ranji Trophy.
As the cricket world is talking about Pujara's possible Test comeback, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also has his eyes on the batsman, but for a different reason.
While Rajkot Stadium is Pujara's home ground, the experienced batsman is from Jamnagar. Hence, Ashwin is keen to see if Pujara invites the Indian team for dinner on this occasion.
“The Indian players have gone back home and will reunite for the next Test match in Rajkot. Rajkot is the home of Cheteshwar Pujara. A certified Indian legend who recently completed his 100 Test matches. We will play in his place. Ravindra Jadeja, Saurashtra. Rajkot stadium is his home ground, but he is from Jamnagar. Let's wait and see if Cheteshwar Pujara invites everyone for dinner at his house,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
It is noteworthy that during the home Test series against England in 2016, Pujara had invited the entire team for dinner at his home in Rajkot. What is different this time is that Pujara was a part of India's squad for the Test series at that time. That is not the case on this occasion.
The Test specialist batsman last played for India during the World Test Championship final in July 2023. Since then, Shubman Gill has taken over the No. 3 spot from Pujara.
While Gill's place was also under threat ahead of the second Test, his century in Vizag gave him control of his position once again.
