Further, in the PIB press release, the Ministry clarified that as per some media reports, no examination centers have been assigned to the North-Eastern States for the National Entrance cum Eligibility Test (NEET) – Master of Dental Surgery (MDS). However, these reports are not accurate. Actually, examination centers are present in the northeastern states. Centers can be found in Shillong, Naharlagun, Kohima, Aizawl, Guwahati and Kolkata. Moreover, during the second application window for the NEET-MDS 2024 exam, which ended on March 11, 2024, only 560 candidates registered.
Supreme Court to hear tomorrow amid demand to postpone NEET MDS 2024
The Supreme Court has scheduled the NEET MDS 2024 adjournment hearing for tomorrow, March 15, 2024. Earlier, the top court had said that it would not take any decision on postponing the exams and instead directed the Central government to take steps into it. NEET MDS 2024 exam date will remain unchanged.
Earlier, TOI had reported that a group of candidates had filed a petition in the Supreme Court to postpone the NEET MDS 2024 exam till July. In response, during the court hearing, the Supreme Court directed the Center to immediately address the NEET MDS 2024 exam issue. However, despite the court's instructions, the Center did not take any decision for about two weeks.
However, on March 8, the National Board of Examinations (NBE) decided to extend the deadline to complete the internship to June 30. The decision was influenced by requests from students whose internship deadline was extended from the previous deadline of March 31. As a result the NEET MDS registration window will be reopened for candidates who completed their internship between April 1 and June 30.
Despite petitions and requests for postponement, the National Board of Examinations (NBE) has maintained its stand and will not delay the NEET MDS exam in 2024. The exam will still be held on March 18, 2024, as originally scheduled.
Tomorrow the Supreme Court will give its verdict on postponing the NEET MDS 2024 exam. It is important to note that the admit cards for the exam are also scheduled to be released tomorrow, March 15, with only a few days left for the exam date.
