NEET MDS 2024 Postponement: Exam reschedule request is ‘Under Process’, reveals RTI

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is currently considering the request to postpone it neet mds 2024 According to an RTI reply received by the All India Students' Union (AISU), the request is still under process.
NEET MDS (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Master in Dental Surgery) is a national level entrance examination conducted by NBEMS (National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences) and is scheduled to be held on 18th March.
On Wednesday, AISU wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “On 08.02.2024, we filed an RTI seeking information about NEET. mds exam postponed, Today, we received a response stating that our representation is 'under process' at the ministry.
Earlier, AISU had written a letter to both the Prime Minister and the Health Ministry, emphasizing on various important issues that need immediate consideration. Foremost among these concerns is the practicality of conducting the NEET MDS exam in March, especially considering the concurrent counseling process with NEET PG and the anticipated completion of the internship required for NEET PG admission, possibly around August or September 2024.
In its letter, AISU pointed out that in 2020, NEET MDS took place in December, which coincides with the delayed NEET PG exam. This helped ensure a fair process for students applying for both the examinations.
Additionally, AISU expressed concern about the long period of inactivity that dental students may experience from March until the conclusion of their internships, which could last approximately 6-7 months. This extended leave not only risks disrupting academic progress but also wastes valuable time.
The students' union also stressed on the disparity in the notification period, noting that NEET PG candidates were informed six months in advance about the postponement of their exams, while NEET MDS candidates were given only two months' notice. Originally scheduled for February 9, the postponement of the NEET MDS exam was officially announced on January 20, with the new date set for March 18. The delay in the announcement of NEET MDS dates has significantly hampered the preparation of the candidates and caused deterioration in their mental health. AISU's letter.
The AISU letter urged the concerned authority to reconsider the schedule of NEET MDS exam and suggested to align it with NEET PG, preferably in July. This change will not only address the concerns raised but will also promote fairness and consistency for both NEET PG and MDS candidates.
