The India vs England Test series was an eventful one for R Ashwin. The experienced spinner played his 100th Test and also took his 500th wicket in this format. However, all was not well for the star bowler as his mother Chitra suffered a health emergency midway through the series. He had to leave the camp midway through the Rajkot Test to be with his mother. On the second day of the Test match, Ashwin took his 500th Test wicket by dismissing England's Jack Crawley. However, hours after this feat, Ashwin went through a traumatic experience which required him to leave the team on an immediate basis.

“Ravichandran Ashwin has withdrawn from the Test squad with immediate effect due to a family medical emergency. In these challenging times, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the team fully support Ashwin,” the BCCI said in its release. Reports say that Ashwin's mother Chitra had to face a medical emergency.

Ashwin recently told where he had gone that night. “We went to the dressing room for another briefing and then came back to our room. Rohit, I and others were chatting about the match here and there.

“That's when I realized I wasn't getting calls from my parents or wife. I thought they were busy attending calls and giving interviews. I called my wife around 7 pm and asked where my parents were.” -Why is father not answering my calls? His voice was slightly trembling. He asked me to come aside from the crowd and told that my mother fell after a headache,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

“I fell silent. I didn't know how to respond or what questions to ask. I was crying but wanted to make sure no one could see me cry. It's unnecessary to think this way, but it was intuitive. I couldn't think. I kept crying in my room for some time.

A reference to his mother came in one of his social media posts, stating that the match figures in his first Test and his 100th Test were the same. “No improvement even after playing the game for so many years. “Only my mom can say things like that”” he wrote in a hilarious post on X.
