Feb 6, 2024

India batsman Hanuma Vihari is looking to make a Test comeback after finishing the Ranji Trophy season on a high note. Vihari's excellent form has contributed to Andhra Pradesh's promotion to Elite Group B. Andhra is currently in second place with three wins from five matches. The 30-year-old batsman has helped his team by scoring 365 runs in seven innings and is behind captain Ricky Bhui's 550 runs for the team. His recent scores have allowed him to keep his average above 50 in domestic cricket.

Vihari is finding it difficult to make a place for himself in India's playing eleven, but he is keen to make his mark in domestic cricket and extend his 16 Test cap tally.

“I am sad and disappointed that I am not in the Test team, but everyone has to face ups and downs, and my job now is to score runs in the Ranji Trophy. The season has gone absolutely well, both for the team and I. So the ambition is to score a lot of runs and try to get back into the Test team,” Vihari told ESPNcricinfo after Andhra beat Bihar.

Vihari produced arguably one of the most famous innings in Indian Test history in 2021. His inning of 23* runs in 161 balls against Australia in Sydney proved to be a match-saving inning for the Indian team.

But since then he has been missing from action and indicated that he is likely not on the selectors' radar at the moment.

Vihari said, “Recently no one has talked to me, but Rahul Dravid talked to me after my last Test and he told me what I can improve, but no, I have not been in touch with anyone since then.” Am.”

Vihari played his last Test in 2022 at Edgbaston and scored 22 and 11 runs. Now his focus is on improving his game and enjoying it.

“But I only think about improving my game and enjoying it. If I don't do that, there is no purpose left. When I go out in the middle, I just want to do my best for the team.” Want to score more runs. I am.” on a stage [in my career] Where I have no expectations. Vihari said, “Whenever I bat, I give my best and then whatever happens, will happen.”

Andhra Pradesh will now take on Uttar Pradesh at the PVG Raju ACA Sports Complex on February 9.
