During the inauguration ceremony of Qualcomm's Chennai Design Centre, Vaishnav Said Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai will now focus on developing standard gauge Vande Bharat trains exclusively for export purposes. Vaishnav said, the standard gauge rakes commonly used in railways across the world, along with the broad gauge Vande Bharat trains currently being manufactured for domestic use, will be part of ICF's export strategy.
Railway Minister stressed the importance of starting the design process for Vande Bharat Standard Gauge trains to ensure timely production and approval for future export opportunities. This will also help in increasing the export capacity of ICF. He said, “If we have to export Vande Bharat rakes five years from now, we have to start the designing process now because the process of designing, testing, getting national and international approvals and manufacturing is a long process.”
Vande Bharat Express trains are semi-high speed self-propelled train sets capable of running at a speed of 160 kmph. In its current form, Vande Bharat trains are AC chair car services for short to medium distance day journeys. This train offers many facilities for the first time in Indian Railways; Automatic interconnecting doors, fully sealed gangways, aircraft style comforts etc. The distributed power train set allows faster acceleration and deceleration, thereby reducing travel time.
Keeping in view the demand for premium trains for overnight travel, Indian Railways is also making a sleeper version of Vande Bharat Express with better facilities. Rajdhani Express Trains. The first prototype of the new Vande Bharat Sleeper is being manufactured at BEML's Bengaluru facility and the Railway Minister has recently inaugurated its car body. It is expected that the train will be ready in the coming months. BEML has initially been given the order to manufacture 10 Vande Bharat sleeper train sets.
