MS Dhoni will be back in action on the cricket field when IPL 2024 begins on March 22, with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) set to host Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opening match of the tournament. Dhoni has not played competitive cricket since the IPL 2023 final last year, where he led CSK to a record-equalling fifth title. Dhoni had a knee problem during the last season, before which he had successfully undergone surgery to resolve his problem. While there is much speculation that IPL 2024 will be Dhoni's last, former CSK batsman Robin Uthappa had suggested that the former India skipper's “knees are getting worn out”.

Addressing the issue of Dhoni's fitness, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has revealed that the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman's knees look fine. Irfan said that he had met Dhoni a few days ago and the former India captain was playing 'pickleball'.

“Last year, Dhoni had said that he was giving his fans a gift from his cricket. I met him a few days ago, he was playing pickleball for two hours continuously. His knee was as fit as ever. It was a The exciting thing is the timing for the fans; now he has his old old look. Will we also get the old-school Dhoni?'', he told Star Sports.

Addressing rumors of Dhoni batting higher up the order and possibly opening the innings, Irfan suggested that the CSK skipper will continue to bat lower down the order.

“His role has changed in the last two years. He comes lower down the order, plays less balls but hits bigger shots, the strike rate is higher. It's a short innings but a memorable one. I think not much will happen in this There has been a change in that over the years. He will continue to play that role and want to contribute to his captaincy. But there will be no complaints if he treats the fans more,” Irfan explained.

The IPL 2024 opener between CSK and RCB will also mark the return of star batsman Virat Kohli, who pulled out of the England series due to personal reasons.

Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma welcomed their second child, a baby boy, last month.
