All-rounder Hardik Pandya remains a pillar in the Indian team, especially in white-ball cricket. But, what if Hardik is playing only as a batsman? In that case, does he make it to the T20 World Cup 2024 squad? Hardik has bowled only one over in the last three matches for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Against Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals, the Mumbai Indians captain decided not to bowl at all and conceded 13 runs in the one over he bowled against RCB. (IPL 2024 points table)

This situation leaves a question mark on the face of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors. Hardik opened the bowling for MI in the first few matches and bowled 3-4 overs but things have changed dramatically in the last 3 matches. Many people even wonder whether there is some injury that has prevented Hardik from giving up the bowling responsibilities.

Former New Zealand cricketer turned commentator Simon Doull even said that he strongly feels that the injury is preventing Hardik from bowling at full strength at present.

“You go out and make a statement by opening the bowling in game No. 1, and suddenly, you're no longer needed,” Doull said on Cricbuzz. “He's injured. I'm telling you there's something wrong with him. He's not admitting it. But there's definitely something wrong with him. That's my gut feeling,” the Kiwi commentator said.

In view of the situation, renowned Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle asked the million dollar question whether Harik should be selected in India's T20 World Cup squad as a pure batsman. For Harsh, the answer is no as there are other better pure batsmen in the team.

“If Hardik is not bowling, will Hardik make the T20 World Cup squad?” Bhogle asked the question while speaking on Cricbuzz. “If he is not bowling is he one of the top six batsmen in India? I am not completely sure about that because if he is not bowling and he is not finishing as strongly, So he needs to bat up there, where all the competition is.”
