Reduction in prices of petrol and diesel! In a relief to the common man, the Petroleum Ministry has announced a cut in petrol and diesel prices across the country from Friday, March 15. Oil marketing companies (OMCs) have confirmed the price revision.
The new prices of petrol and diesel will be effective from 6 am on March 15. This is the first cut in petrol and diesel prices by state-owned oil companies in almost two years.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the price cut will benefit consumers and reduce operating expenses for heavy goods vehicles, cars and two-wheelers. Reduction in prices of petrol and diesel will give a boost to consumers. Reducing expenditure and operating costs for more than 58 lakh heavy goods vehicles, 6 crore cars and 27 crore two-wheelers running on diesel, the ministry said on social media.

Petrol prices in the national capital will drop to Rs 94.72 per liter and diesel prices to Rs 87.62 per litre. Petrol prices in Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai will be Rs 104.21, Rs 103.94 and Rs 100.75 per liter respectively, while diesel prices will be Rs 92.15, Rs 90.76 and Rs 92.34 per litre, respectively.
The Petroleum Ministry's post on X read:
Oil marketing companies (OMCs) have informed that they have revised the prices of petrol and diesel across the country. The new prices will be effective from 15 March 2024, 06:00 AM.
The reduction in petrol and diesel prices will boost consumer spending and reduce the operating costs of more than 58 lakh heavy goods vehicles, 6 crore cars and 27 crore two-wheelers running on diesel.
Citizens will benefit from reduced prices of petrol and diesel:

● Promotion of tourism and travel industries.
● Control on inflation.
● Increase in consumer confidence and spending.
● Reduction in expenses for businesses dependent on transportation.
