“Please Help”: R Ashwin Feels The Pinch Of “Unreal” IPL Ticket Demand, Calls On CSK

R Ashwin is one of the best performing Indian cricketers in the last decade. He has been India's best bowler in Tests. Recently he took his 500th wicket during the India vs England Test series. In the same series, he also played his 100th Test for India. But despite all this, getting IPL tickets seems like a tough task like many others. R Ashwin hails from Chennai, where the first match of IPL 2024 will be played between MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

However, Rajasthan Royals players have been surprised by the unexpected demand for tickets. “Unreal ticket demand for #CSKvRCB #IPL2024 opening ceremony in Chepauk. My kids want to watch the opening ceremony & game. @ChennaiIPL please help,” he posted on Twitter.

Ashwin's entry into the 500-wicket club is delighted by the great Anil Kumble, who said the off-spinner's immense success over the last decade has stemmed from his willingness to learn and ability to constantly rise above challenges.

Currently with 516 wickets, Ashwin is the second-highest wicket-taker for India in Tests behind Kumble (619), and the former India leg spinner was not surprised at all by that.

“Ashwin has faced many challenges. He has not allowed any of them to halt his progress. He has been an extraordinary match-winner for the country for over a decade, and the consistency he has shown Is a great sign.

“It requires complete dedication towards the cause,” Kumble said during a function organized by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association to honor Ashwin for completing 100 Tests and 500 wickets.

Kumble said that Ashwin has been able to deal with the huge expectations placed on him by the Indian fans.

“In India, once you get your level to a certain level, it is not easy to continue performing. The expectations are unrealistically high in every game. Less than five wickets is considered a failure. However It is unfair to the player concerned. “Ashwin has managed it really well,” Kumble said.

But Kumble believes that these figures are the result of Ashwin's bloody-minded work on and off the field.

“His numbers have been fantastic. There is no fun in piling up wickets if it doesn't help the team win. He has a tremendous connection with his own and India's success. He is rarely satisfied with being very good or excellent. Every next day, he wants to be better than the previous one. That's the mark of a great learner,” he said.
