Ranji Trophy winners Mumbai to receive additional Rs 5 crore | Cricket News

New Delhi: The victorious Mumbai team is set to get an additional Rs 5 crore for their historic 42nd ranji trophy win, as the state cricket association decided to double the prize money on Thursday.
On the fifth and final day of the championship match held at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai defeated Vidarbha by 169 runs to win their unprecedented 42nd Ranji title, further increasing their record tally.
A statement from MCA secretary Ajinkya Naik said, “MCA President Amol Kale and the Apex Council have decided to double the Ranji Trophy prize money. MCA will pay an additional amount of Rs 5 crore to the winning Mumbai Ranji Trophy team. “
“It has been a very good year for MCA as the association has won 7 titles and we have made it to the knockout stage in all age groups in BCCI tournaments.”
Mumbai ended an eight-year wait to win a record-extending title here, getting the better of a determined Vidarbha.
The fate of the final – Mumbai's 48th in the tournament's 90-year history – was decided here at the iconic Wankhede Stadium when the hosts set a target of 538 runs for the visitors.
Vidarbha captain Akshay Wadkar (102) and untouched Harsh Dubey (65) kept Mumbai in check throughout the first session on the last day, after which Vidarbha scored 248 runs for five wickets and needed 290 runs to win.
Ultimately the team was bowled out for 368 runs in this match, with Vidarbha frustrating the host team for a long time in the last two days of play.
