Report indicates London police leaving children at risk of exploitation, suggests several reforms

Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) has highlighted the ineffectiveness of the police force's response to the criminal and sexual exploitation of children in its 51-page report. The report additionally suggests about a dozen Improvement Implementation should be done to improve the situation.
The inspectorate found evidence of some positive actions by the Met to protect children, but overall, concluded that more needed to be done.
The report raises concerns about the Met's inadequate investigative practices, particularly when children are reported missing or at risk of exploitation. It also highlights the use of victim blaming language by police officers and staff.
A 14-year-old girl was reported missing by her foster mother and was believed to be at risk of sexual and criminal exploitation by drug dealers, the report said.
The HMICFRS review said efforts to locate him were “limited” and that observers repeatedly said “his behavior was not out of character”.
In response to the report, the Met has apologized and promised to improve its response by increasing police resources and providing better training for officers dealing with child abuse cases.
“We are deploying more police resources to the area and retraining officers to better understand the complexities of child exploitation,” Met Commander Kevin Southworth said.
