“Rs 24.75 Crore Down The Drain”: Mitchell Starc’s Horror Show Triggers Hilarious Meme Fest

Kolkata Knight Riders fast bowler Mitchell Starc, who was bought for Rs 24.75 crore in the auction, had to face severe criticism against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday. Starc gave 53 runs in his quota of 4 overs while failing to take a single wicket. In comparison, KKR's young star Harshit Rana took 3 wickets for 33 runs in his spell of 4 overs. Only Varun Chakravarthy, who scored 55 runs for 1 wicket in 4 overs, faced major criticism from Starc in the match. The Australian fast bowler, considered one of the best players in the world, was expected to emerge as a match winner, but his shameful performance with the ball led to memes doing the rounds on social media.

KKR captain Shreyas Iyer asked to bowl the 19th over, Starc gave away 26 runs, Heinrich Klaasen and Shahbaz Ahmed clean bowled the left-arm fast bowler. Fans did not hesitate to troll Starc mercilessly and question the 'world record' fee of Rs 24.5 crore paid for him by the franchise. Here are some reactions:

Despite Starc's demoralizing performance with the ball, KKR had Andre Russell to thank for their 4-run win in the match.

After the match, Iyer admitted that he had butterflies in his stomach after the 17th over as the match had become a nail-biter.

“My stomach started churning right from the 17th over. Felt that anything could happen in the last over. They needed 13 runs and we didn't have the most experienced bowler. But I believed in him, and I told him to support himself no matter what happens. He was a little nervous coming in, and I just looked him in the eyes and told him, 'This is your moment, buddy.'

“Told him to support himself and no matter what happens in the game. (On Russell and Narine) They have such experience. It was good to see Andre perform with bat and ball and even Sunny (Narayan) was brilliant with the ball. It's great to have them around. It always motivates you when you start with a win.

“This game also gives us a lot to learn, we will learn a lot from this ground. I believe fielding is an area we need to improve. There was so much noise that it was difficult to give signals to other players from the depth,'' he said.
