“Rumour Or Someone Wanting To Sideline Me”: KKR Star Varun Chakravarthy On Team India Absence

One of the toughest spinners to face in the Indian circuit, Varun Chakravarthy was swiftly included in the Indian squad due to his exemplary performances for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. Varun, who claimed to be a match-winner for India in the 2021 T20 World Cup, did not perform well in the tournament and has not played for the Indian team since then. His performance in the IPL also declined in the next season, but the mystery spinner is still angry over some 'rumours' doing the rounds regarding his fitness.

In an interview, Varun said that people had exaggerated the seriousness of his injury. He is not sure whether it was just a rumor or someone deliberately tried to spread fake news to keep him away from the Indian national team.

“It was very difficult because right after we finished the World Cup, it was not a big injury; it was a very minor injury. It took me just two or three weeks to get back on track, but after that, I was sidelined , And people kept making the excuse that I was injured, but on the other hand, I wasn't injured for so long. I don't know, [if] It was just a rumour, or someone wanted to spread this news about me so that they could sideline me. But life is like that; it is unfair. It was very difficult for me,” he told CricXtasy.

“IPL 2022 was not a good season because what happened in 2021 after the World Cup had crept in me, and I was very desperate to get back into the Indian team. So I wanted to prove to everyone that I was very desperate. He further said, “Many things changed in my bowling, which ultimately affected my mental peace and I was not able to bowl my normal way. So that IPL was bad for me.”

Varun last played for India in November 2021 and has not been included in any of the three formats since then. The player admitted that earlier he was desperate to wear India's colors again but now he has no hopes.

“I took time off, and I understood what was happening to me. Now, it's all good; I'm no longer desperate. I know how things work. Even the best of the best Also from – There is news that they are going to sideline this person, so who am I? I have no expectations. Let's see whoever comes my way – I will do my best.

“The best thing is to accept reality. There is no one in the competitive world who will really help you or think well of you. Everyone has their own competition; everyone has their own struggles. I can't run after people. Go and yell at them, 'Why aren't you picking me? I feel bad; I'm feeling depressed. I'm not coming to this match.' It's not professional. The best thing I can do is come to the matches, do my best and relax, leave it to God, and whatever happens, happens. Rumors – It has hurt my career. Caused huge damage, but I have just accepted it,” he insisted.
