Ryan Coogler set to produce Prince jukebox musical

Filmmaker Ryan Coogler is set to produce a new musical centered on the music of Prince for Universal Pictures, it has been confirmed hollywood reporter, The project, which has been in development since 2018, will feature a collection of Prince's iconic songs in a jukebox music format. The screenplay for the upcoming film is credited to Brian Edward Hill.

The production also stars Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian, along with Coogler and Jody Gerson, president of Universal Music Publishing Group. Proximity's Rebecca Cho serves as executive producer for the project. The news comes amid reports of Coogler's upcoming Warner Bros. feature starring Michael B. Jordan being released on March 7, 2025.

Coogler and Jordan have a history of successful collaborations, including acclaimed films Fruitvale Station, CreedeAnd black Panther. Coogler's recent work includes directing the 2022 Marvel sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and contributed Rihanna's song “Lift Me Up” to its soundtrack, earning her several award nominations.

With Prince's timeless hits and cinematic legacy, particularly his role in the 1984 rock musical purple RainThe anticipation for this new music is very high.
