Veteran South African spinner Keshav Maharaj will feature in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for the first time after signing with Fortune Barishal. The 34-year-old is due to arrive in Chattogram on February 13, which will make him available for the game the next day. While Maharaj is all set to make his BPL debut, South Africa will take on New Zealand in the second Test in Hamilton from February 13.

The inexperienced South African team suffered a massive 281-run defeat in the first Test at Mount Maunganui.

The team consists mostly of young and inexperienced players as most of the first team stars were involved in the recently concluded SA20 league.

Maharaj's first team campaign ended on 10 February, when his team (Durban Super Giants) lost against Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the final of the competition. He is not available for the second Test as Cricket South Africa (CSA) policies require a player to take a week to acclimatise to the conditions at the venue.

Sunrisers set a target of 205 runs after a brilliant all-round batting performance in the final of the second season of the SA20 League.

They managed to restrict Durban to 115 on the back of economical bowling, with Marco Jensen performing brilliantly with 5/30, although the foundation of the win was laid by Dan Worrall (2/15) and Otniel Baartman (2/17). Kept.

According to ESPNcricinfo, some of the South African players involved in the SA20 have inquired with CSA about the possibility of joining the ongoing ILT20. However, the players did not request for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) as the CSA was not keen on the idea.

Due to Maharaj joining BPL, he will not be able to participate even in the domestic four-day competition. He could become a key player for Fortune Barishal as they are fourth in the league table with four crucial group stage games remaining.
