The 28-year-old, who was recently bought by Gujarat Titans for a hefty price of Rs 10 crore, is looking to make a strong mark in the IPL as a step towards securing his place in the national team.
Set to play in the second T20I against West Indies at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday, Johnson is focusing on his work while acknowledging the importance of the opportunity in front of him.
In an interview with 'Perth Now' he commented, “I'm just taking it in my stride, but when you sit back and think about it it's pretty ridiculous. I'm here now and just I keep going.”
With an eye on the T20 World Cup to be held in the Caribbean and the United States in June, Johnson is aware of the importance of delivering excellent performances in the IPL.
“It would be nice to perform for Australia, but there is still a lot of time before the World Cup. And if I have a good IPL, there is every possibility that I could be in the World Cup squad,” he said.
Johnson's stellar performance in the Big Bash League 2023-24, where he took 19 wickets in 11 innings at an impressive average of 14.47, is a testament to his bowling ability.
“I think what I did in the Big Bash will hopefully be good enough,” he said optimistically.
Buoyed by his recent success, Johnson is eager to take on the challenge and take advantage of the opportunity to represent his country.
“I'm looking forward to the challenge and it's definitely given me some confidence in the game,” he confirmed.
