Chennai Super Kings put up a strong performance against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first match of IPL 2024 on Friday. Left-arm fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman broke the back of CSK by taking four wickets in his first two overs. He dismissed Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Cameron Green. This is CSK's first match under the leadership of new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and his team gave its all in bowling as well as fielding. This was evident as Virat Kohli was caught out by the brilliant teamwork of Rachin Ravindra and Ajinkya Rahane.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat first against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the blockbuster opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday. CSK will go into the high-voltage southern derby with a new captain as MS Dhoni handed over the reins to opener Ruturaj Gaikwad.

CSK and RCB have faced each other in 31 matches so far, where Chennai has won 20 and Bengaluru has won only 10.

Four foreign players Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Mahesh Theekshana, Mustafizur Rahman and domestic player Sameer Rizvi are making their debut for CSK.

Speaking at the toss, Faf du Plessis said, “We will bat first. Looks like a good wicket, the conditions here are going to be batting first.
