Prime Video has unveiled the trailer for the highly anticipated season two The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of PowerThe epic prequel offers Tolkien-heads a new take on the saga's continuity.

The season two trailer focuses on the ominous return of Sauron, played by Charlie Vickers, but this time, as an elf with long blonde hair. Sauron's presence begins to loom over the Second Age of Middle-earth, hinting at his “ancient evil”. Other elves, including Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo), are shown preparing for war. A voiceover emphasizes Sauron's capacity for manipulation, raising concerns about his presence among them.

The official summary reads,

“Expelled by Galadriel without army or allies, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will bind him all of Middle-earth. Will allow. His terrible desire. Building on the epic scope and ambition of Season One, the new season plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, and challenges each to find their place in a world that is rapidly teetering on the brink of disaster. But it is. Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and harefoots…as friendships strain and empires begin to crumble, the forces of good will struggle ever more bravely to preserve what means most to them. What matters more is each other.

Set to premiere globally on August 29, 2024, the series will be available in more than 240 countries and territories in multiple languages.
