Deepak (86kg), who came close to winning a medal at the Tokyo Games, and Sujit (65kg), are heading to Bishkek to participate in the Asia Olympic Qualifiers, the second-last qualifying event for the Paris Olympics. Friday.
However, the two were left stranded at Dubai Airport after the country was hit by the heaviest rainfall ever, flooding major highways and roads and paralyzing one of the world's busiest airports.
Both of them, along with Russian coach Kamal Malikov and physio Shubham Gupta, have been forced to sleep on the floor and are not even getting proper food due to the crisis caused by the rain.
Deepak and Sujeet will weigh in at 8 am on Friday, while the matches are scheduled for later in the day.
“They have been stranded at Dubai airport since April 16 and it feels like their chance to qualify for the Paris Olympics is slipping away as they have to compete tomorrow. They are not getting any flight to Bishkek. I “Worried about them.” Sujit's father Dayanand Kalakal told PTI.
Deepak and Sujeet were training in Dagestan, Russia, from April 2 to 15 and decided to fly from Makhachkala to Bishkek via Dubai.
The last chance to qualify for Paris will be the world qualifiers in Turkey in May.
